Singer-Songwriters Kala Farnham and Lara Herscovitch will share the bill and swap songs during the monthly Hard Luck Café series co-presented by the Folk Music Society of Huntington and the Cinema Arts Centre (423 Park Avenue, Huntington) in the Cinema’s Sky Room on Wednesday, March 15, from 7-10 p.m.

Farnham is the current official Connecticut State Troubadour, while Herscovitch is a previous CT State Troubadour. An open mic precedes the concert. Tickets are $20 ($15 for Cinema Arts Centre/FMSH members) and can be purchased online at https://cinemaartscentre.org or at the Cinema Arts Centre box office now through the evening of the event. Armed with a voice and an array of instruments, songstress Kala Farnham (https://kalafarnham.com) set out into the world with one vision: to inspire through the transformative power of musical storytelling. Farnham was the winner of the 2019 Rose Garden Performing Songwriter Contest, a finalist in the 2020 Great American Song Contest, and was part of the Grassy Hill Emerging Artist Showcase during the 2020 Falcon Ridge Folk Festival.

Lara Herscotich (https://laraherscovitch.com) has a voice that is “clear and smooth, like expensive liquor” (Northeast Performer). As described in The Boston Globe, she brings “a luminous voice and a buoyant stage presence.” Hailed as “a remarkable performer” on WSHU’s Profiles in Folk, she has performed on A Prairie Home Companion and in John Platt’s On Your Radar series in NYC, as well as for FMSH in the past. Herscovitch has been a winner or finalist in a number of singer-songwriter competitions.

Established in 1973, Huntington’s Cinema Arts Centre (cinemaartscentre.org) seeks to bring the best of cinematic artistry to Long Island and use the power of film to expand the awareness and consciousness of our community. LI’s only not-for-profit, viewer-supported independent cinema presents a wide array of films that are often accompanied by discussions and guest speakers.

Founded in the late 1960s, the Folk Music Society of Huntington (fmsh.org) is a volunteer-led nonprofit organization. It co-presents the monthly Hard Luck Café concert series and the thrice-monthly NorthShore Original Open Mic (NOOM) with the Cinema Arts Centre in its Sky Room, a monthly folk jam at the South Huntington Public Library (the next one is on Sunday, March 19, from 1-4 p.m.), and an annual folk festival in conjunction with the Huntington Arts Council.
